Fafi Sighting

I don't have like a list of "My Favorite Artists" but if I did, Fafi would be on it. Her artwork stands out & on my daily trip to YOUHEARDTHATNEW.COM, there was a Fafi sighting. The video for "Do! Do! Do!" by Carte Blanch ft. Kid Sister was featured on the site and the cartoon used looked awfully familiar to me. So I did some GOOGLING and found that Fafi was definitely involved in the visuals. TEENAGE DREAM

I love Pop music! I used to listen to N*SYNC, Hanson, The Spice Girls and a whooooole bunch of other singers/groups just like them. Its just Good/Fun music. This album isn't "NEW" new, but if u know me then u know it takes a WHILE for me to get around to listening to some things. Recently I finally listened to ALL of Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream". And boyyyyy do I LOVE IT! She has some great beats, good lyrics and she is sangin' her A$$ off on them tracks! I would advise anyone who likes Katy Perry, Pop music or just GOOD MUSIC to get ahold of this album and take a good listen. ENJOY

After the first year I began this blog, I told myself I would blog everyday. As you can see.....THAT HAS NOT HAPPENED! LOL So I'm implementing Project 365 as of NOW. I'm going to try and get my blog post count for the year of 2010 up to 365. I now have 31 days to DO SO, & hopefully I will SUCCEED! And then I will make the same GOAL for 2011, with better hope! ....to make my entire NIGHT! So I had to run to the ATM right quick....I'm PJ'd DOWN & all that good ish. Anywayzzz, as I'm walking back to my car, I pass this black man with locks & he says "Hey sistah", and I reply back..."hey". It sounds meaningless but it was so NICE to hear "Sistah". Of course he was an older gentleman, bc more than likely if he was my age he would have been like "Hey Ma" or "Whats good shorty?" and he might have also tried to grab my arm. Not to dismiss my male peers who would have said "Sistah" or something as equally pleasing to the ears, but I'm just going off my more COMMON experiences. I don't know what happened between the time of the strangers generation and mine......but I forsake this mysterious reasoning, & hope that more of you beautiful black men would just take the time to kindly say "HEY" to a "Sistah"!

Who's it gonna be?

Lately I've been listening to a lot of Donny Hathaway, thanks to DonV! And in doing so it got the wheels in my brain to turn at a rapid speeeeeed. Does my generation have artists with the Caliber of talent that the past gens. have had?! I mean....when was the last time you listened to "A Song For You" by Hathaway??? The song is moving, its VIVID, it lives. Donny sings that song like if he doesn't, the person he wrote it 4 will walk away from him THAT INSTANT! Or what about Stevie Wonder...Al Green...and of COURSE...MARVIN GAYE???? There are many more that can be mentioned, but with those few, I think you get my POINT! I know we have a few artists around today that stand out among the rest. Like Bilal, Anthony Hamilton, Musiq, Donnie, Maxwell.....but is their music going to stand the Test of Time? I just don't know....I want to believe that I'll tell my children about my generations soulful crooners, but I'll probably be more inclined to let them hear "Just to Keep You Satisfied" or "I'll Love You More Than You'll Ever Know". I just don't know....maybe I need to give them more time to be great. Whenever one of these long awaited "Greats" for MY generation comes around....I'll definitely keep you informed!

Hueless BLUES

If you know me, then you're probably aware of the fact that I LOVE music. But my taste is very ECLECTIC, so I love many different types of music. One of the many Genre's I love is Rock music (I'm a beast on Guitar Hero). This mix I've created is dedicated to a special group of rockers that have a HINT of the Blues, and a SPLASH of Soul in their music. I love white men with a little Soul/Blues, because white men get the BLUES too :( ! The Epitome of this type of music I LIKE would be the Black Keys (who are on the mix). L'amore è is Italian for Love is. I bought a t-shirt once that had two ppl on it and it said Love is...something something something. Apparently Love is...is a comic created by Kim Grove. Some examples are: Love is...you're secret weapon or Love is...a necessity, not a luxury. After rediscovering Love is...I thought that would be a good theme for my Valentine's Day Mix. V-day is by far one of my most FAVORITEST holidays. An entire day focused on LOVE? Yeah I'm a sucker for that! And I wanted to use this mix to explain that there are many types of love and so many songs that describe them, that there has to be at least ONE that speaks directly to you. Fairytales

When most little girls are growing up they're told several stories of princesses that meet their prince or damsel's in distress who are rescued by their true love. Little do these poor little girls know the road to meeting their knights in shining armor can be long/hard/painful/& sometimes never ending. My Shnoogy recently informed me that even the fairy tales we've grown up knowing aren't the WHOLE truth. Did you know in the real version of Sleeping Beauty, that her "Prince" doesn't kiss her to wake her up? But instead he RAPES her in her sleep, she bares children and one of the kids sucks out the thorn in her thumb that put her to sleep? TRAUMATIZING RIGHT?! Were you also aware that in the real version of Snow White, her "Prince" doesn't awaken her by a kiss....but instead, the piece of the poison apple is dislodged from her throat because of the bumpy movement of her coffin.....BECAUSE HE WAS KIDNAPPING HER! Now I'm aware that these aren't stories you can tell a CHILD....and that the point of the Disney versions is to instill the concept of love in a little girl. But in this day and age.....what's the POINT?! Nowadays its RARE to find a man you could even think to compare to a Knight in Shining Armor or a Prince. I'm not saying they don't exist....I'm just saying they're rare....LIKE A UNICORN! Some men act like taking a woman out on a date is a hard thing to do, & today is borderline UNCOMMON. Respect in general is lacking from men today, & many lack common decency. You could have spared me allllllll the love stories in the world if I had known that the world wasn't really like that. Again I'm not saying I'm a skeptic on the concept of LOVE or anything like that, I'm actually the complete opposite. But you can spare me the sappy love stories and what not. I'll just wait until its time to write my own Fairytale!

Where did it go WRONG?

I have always had a lot of guy friends growing up.....I'm not sure why (bc I'm the illest nigga in Nebraska?), but I have. Of course I had my home girls.....my main circle in like HIGH SCHOOL or whatever. But I had way more close guy friends than close girl friends. But as we've gotten older and hopefully wiser, I'm stepping back and looking at some of these friends as just MEN. I have so much more access to my dudes than I had before, with sites like twitter and what not. & sometimes its almost PAINFUL to read some of the things they say or think about. Many refer to women as BITCHES, or tweet about how "Bitches ain't shit" and blah blah blah. I know I'm not a bitch and that they're more than likely NOT talking about me, but that is a GENERAL statement. Did I not set a good enough example growing up with these guys? I was the funny good girl in High School and pretty much still am, so why don't they think about me or girls like me when they tweet shit like "All bitches are fuckin!" or something just as equally objectifying/degrading? I would never tweet no shit like "Niggas ain't SHIT." Why?...because I know some niggas who don't fit in the "Ain't SHIT" category, & I always think about them whenever I may FEEL like generalizing all men. But I can't expect everyone to do what I do. I guess some people aren't the way they used to be....or maybe I never knew this side of them. So many of my friends do things in regards to women that it makes me almost ashamed to say I'm their friend. Maybe they'll say I'm the one that's change...who knows.....I could be over analyzing things. Or maybe this is just the way some of them are gonna be, but hopefully not forever [I pray not forever]

I believe 2010 holds a lot of great things to come! One of these things being Bilal's debut album on Plug Research. If you're a fan of Bilal [as I truly am] then you are probably aware of his 1st solo album 1st Born Second and the unfortunately shelved Love For Sale. There aren't any leaked singles, potential album titles or anything like that for this upcoming album. This is just a HEADS UP to look out for new music from Bilal in 2010!

When Stumbling goes RIGHT!

If you actually know me [COPE] in real life, then you probably know that I'm kind of a computer geek!? (& if you don't know, now ya KNOW n**ga) So this post is me "the Geek" informing you of an awesome website I was put onto. My friend Panda told me about Stumbleupon.com about a month or so ago. Basically what you do is create a profile, then you can personalize it with what your different interests are. Then you STUMBLE, which simply means you click the STUMBLE! button and it takes you to different random websites that match your selected interests. And once you land on a webiste that you really like, you can then favorite it for future reference! I recommend that if you're reading this post, then your next action should be to visit Stumbleupon.com. The worst thing that can happen is you don't think its that awesome....& in the event that that does happen, your solution is easy......X out of that window :). And if you DO think that the website is the TITS, then "Tell em' that I sent'cha" (said in my best Juelz voice).
